## Minimum Qualifications
G-14 Bachelors degree in public health, public administration and policy, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering, health economics, finance or a related degree and one year of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
G-18 Bachelors degree in public health, public administration and policy, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering, health economics, finance or a related degree and two years of post -degree professional research experience in the appropriate field OR a Masters degree in one of the above fields and one year of professional research experience in the appropriate field.
G-22 - Bachelors degree in public health, public administration and policy, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering, health economics, finance or a related degree and three years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a Masters degree in one of the above fields and two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.
Work experience or coursework in statistics, mathematics, health economics, epidemiology, health or public policy, health administration, or health services research. Professional experience with research and/or evaluation studies or projects including: data collection and analysis, database management, statistical analyses and presentation of research findings. Knowledge of health care delivery systems and policies related to Medicaid, Medicare, and/or other payer related payment mechanisms. Experience with project management and supervision a plus. Ability to work with a diverse team evaluating health care services. Excellent written and communication skills
## Duties Description
The Research Scientist will help to ensure that all New Yorkers irrespective of their person and care setting will have access to health care services that are safe and of the highest quality consistent with the best available evidence. The Research Scientist will serve as an entry-level researcher under the direction of a Research Scientist 3 in the Division of Quality Measurement to help the office meet its expanding responsibilities to promote health care quality and patient safety through a variety of data-driven means including research, evaluation, and health information analysis. The Research Scientist will, utilizing several sources of data within the OQPS: assist with research studies and perform analyses to evaluate quality, satisfaction and utilization; actively engage in presenting and reporting research and evaluation results; contribute to formulating healthcare policy recommendations based on findings and contribute to manuscripts for peer review publication; contribute to the planning, design, analysis and reporting of Division research, through formal reports, consumer guides, and other materials; assist higher-level staff in research studies and analyses which will be used in the Divisions evaluation and improvement initiatives and published as reports and articles; support the OQPS research and evaluation agenda by: performing literature reviews, drafting manuscripts, ensuring datasets are complete and accurate, and assisting higher-level research scientists in analyses and evaluation.
If appointed at the Assistant Research Scientist level, the incumbent will perform these duties under the technical supervision of a higher-level Research Scientist; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1, the incumbent will perform these duties under general supervision; if appointed at a Research Scientist 2 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties with a considerable degree of independence. ## Additional Comments
