Title*: Space Surveillance Radar Systems Software Engineer
Job Location: Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, CO
The Space Domain Awareness Division (USSF SMC/SPG) executes system acquisition and sustainment program management, sustaining engineering, maintenance and supply support, and modification execution for ground-based Space Situational Awareness (SSA) sensors and command and control (C2) systems.
Odyssey Systems provides support to the Government in five areas: Product Support, Sustainment Engineering & Sustainment Management, Technical Order Management, Technical User Interface, and System Design, Engineering and Integration. These tasks are executed laterally with SMC/SPG depot and development contractors, and with Space Domain Awareness stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:
Performs engineering tasks, research, studies and analysis that provide engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis, requirement development, and implementation for complex systems in the engineering disciplines. These tasks are required to meet technical requirements in support of associated large scale mission critical projects. Makes recommendations and advises on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts. Performs risk assessments and analysis employing modeling and simulation techniques. This position provides support to the Space Domain Awareness Advanced Radar Systems portfolio. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Support planning and execution of software elements during development, modification, upgrade and sustainment of ground-based radar systems
Analyze discrepancy and enhancement reports; determine software solutions; make recommendations to the Government during system acquisition, enhancement, optimization, and sustainment efforts
Review, lead, develop, and/or provide input on enabling concepts, concepts of operation, and use case development
Review and provide comments/input to the development of overarching system design documentation to include: technical requirements documents (TRD); capability description documents (CDD); capability production documents (CPD); interface control documents (ICDs); and system specifications
Ensure technical and support requirements are addressed as part of all ground-based radar system modifications
Provide recommendations to lower the Life Cycle Cost and improve system readiness of ground-based radar systems
Develop, plan, and implement product support strategies and analysis for technology demonstrations, prototyping, acquisition, and system test and evaluation activities
Track development and sustainment risks in support of Government activities; develop and execute technology insertion and risk reduction strategies, studies and recommendations to mitigate identified risk conditions
Coordinate and lead resolution of system issues, deficiencies, software bugs, etc. with prime contractors, depot contractors other support contractors; monitor contractor performance during software development, test, and fielding
Provide engineering expertise, to include proactively identifying and resolving potential risks, to program managers at technical interchange meetings, design reviews, program conferences, technical order in-process reviews, VTCs, telecoms, working groups and informational meetings to facilitate informed decisions
Provide relevant input to acquisition planning activities, upgrades and modifications and studies and interface with contractor logistics support personnel and product support integrators; prepare briefings, reports, formal and informational analyses
Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon government direction
Other duties as required/requested by the Government within the constraints of the S3 contract
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics or related field and 14 years of experience in engineering disciplines, acquisition, logistics, and/or sustainment; strong interpersonal and communications skills (via phone, email and in-person); ability to work collaboratively and effectively in fast-pace environment
Knowledge of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to system design, architecture, and integration
Knowledge of and/or experience with defining and selecting software engineering architectures, including classical data-driven, monolithic architectures as well as service-based, object oriented, and cloud-based computing architectures
Knowledge of and/or experience with software implementation processes and methodologies, including requirements definition and decomposition, design, implementation, testing, and fielding software and modifications employing waterfall, agile DevOps, and SecDevOps processes
Knowledge of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as the principles of planning and program management
Ability to analyze data and establish requirements for technical objectives and characteristics
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies
Active Secret clearance, TS/SCI eligible
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics or related field and 10 years of experience in engineering disciplines, acquisition, logistics, and/or sustainment
Specific experience with ground-based radar systems for Space Domain Awareness (e.g. Space Fence, Eglin, C-Band, Globus II)
Knowledge of the Space Surveillance Network and its systems and mission
Familiarity with SMC/SPG and its predecessor organizations
Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of multidisciplinary professional engineering to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to new applications, experimental theories, and other areas of responsibility
Knowledge of planning and program management to execute major projects, provide expert advice to colleagues, and present innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or methods
Direct experience with defining and selecting software engineering architectures, including classical data-driven, monolithic architectures as well as service-based, object oriented, and cloud-based computing architectures for DoD systems
Direct experience with software implementation processes and methodologies, including requirements definition and decomposition, design, implementation, testing, and fielding software and modifications employing waterfall, agile DevOps, and SecDevOps processes for DoD systems
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization
Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions
Active TS/SCI clearance; agreeable to polygraph
