OVERVIEW

This position is responsible in an oversight capacity for optimizing the safety and health programs within the local organization. This individual will coordinate the safety and health efforts within the Florida Crystals Corporation various Agricultural and/or Industrial Locations, working closely with corporate and field personnel to maximize overall efficiency and effectiveness of the safety and health efforts. The position of Senior Safety Representative reports directly to the Senior Safety Manager and will have the responsibility to coordinate the implementation, and evaluation of critical safety processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to Agricultural and/or Industrial locations safety performance.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide information and guidance for activities relating to the multi-site-wide safety objectives

Ensure that Agricultural/Industrial Operations safety goals are aligned with relevant business unit and corporate safety and health goals.

Work in a team environment where responsibilities for injury/illness prevention, compliance assurance, safety auditing, incident investigation, and employee training are incumbent on both the leadership team and the individual

Administer and monitor all corporate safety programs

Participate in the investigation of accidents, injuries and near misses. Identify causal factors and root causes for such incidents and provide guidance and support to management in the correction of the same.Support Operations or other Departments on site in planning activities and projects from a Safety perspective.

Work with Management Team and Employees to instil a genuine culture of safety awareness and responsibility across the organization.

Provide regular status reports regarding the safety program to the Senior Safety Manager and Vice President of Human Resources.

Ensure that the Safety Committee is adhering to the corporate standards, actively communicating to all assigned location(s) personnel regarding safety related issues, and are developing the appropriate corrective action plans to address any safety issues.

Monitor and maintain compliance with the requirements of federal & state OSHA requirements, and other applicable standards .

Prevention of accidents through site walkthroughs that includes behavioural auditing, personnel communication and statistical analysis.

Facilitate regulatory visits.

Support and assist in the implementation of corrective actions.

Conduct or lead training in applicable Safety and Health areas.

Evaluate programs, issue recommendations, and deployment of new safety initiatives.

Liaise with all other functional first line management and supervision.

Participate in strategic planning and support of corporate Safety and Health initiatives;

Work with HR to manage Workers Compensation Claims and Return to Work programs

Daily walk down / visit of assigned agricultural and/or industrial locations.

Observations of unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Review of LOTO for implementation and procedure in equipment shops and operations as applicable.

Fire Prevention spot check for compliance (fire hose, extinguisher, and fire watch).

Confined space access and compliance verification of sign in/out, personnel count for accuracy.

Implementation of Safety Committee and follow up to Safety Committee action items.

Accident, Near Miss and Safety Alert review.

Observe Contractor Safety performance including compliance with Safety regulatory requirements.

Support supervision and management in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations at the sites.

Scheduling of practice drills for events such as evacuation, spills and fires.

Assist on developing JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) for operations & maintenance.

Provide Safety Training to personnel at all levels within the organization.

Be on call to assist in the management of emergency response incidents.

WORK EXPERIENCES

At least five (5) years of relevant experience in the Safety profession or one of its specialties in Construction or General Industry.

Maintained recordkeeping systems; conducted training in all Safety related topics; conducted inspections and audits; recognized hazards; participated in and lead emergency responses; addressed employee Safety concerns; implemented Safety measures, programs, and procedures; maintained metrics and KPIs; prepared technical reports; issued hot work permits and confined space permits.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

4 year or 2 year degree from an accredited College or University.

Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry or Engineering is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct reports.

Thorough knowledge of applicable government regulations

Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project).

Bilingual (Spanish and English) Preferred

Demonstrates effective communication skills, capable of managing multiple projects, has strong training and interpersonal skills, can lead or participate within assigned work team(s).
